Karen's Study Skills

Task 1:

Getting to class on time can be a big deal to those who 's late all the time. As far for me, when I was at Cedar Shoals, I was really never on time. But now that I'm at Classic City,I'm on time everyday and in every class. Being prepared for that assignment that you're going to do shows you, your teacher, and your classmates that ready to learn. Taking good notes doesn't necessary means that you should copy each sentence word by word. Taking good notes means putting words in your own way.Getting started is something that most students has on their minds when class starts, but staying on task is the hard part. After being finishing the task that you was assigned and if there any extra time,try to do some extra work.


Task 2:

Part a:
The way I study:

1. Learn as much as possible.
2. Write down all the things that I don't understand.
3. Then write down all the things that I do understand in my own words.
4. Go home and review everything that I wrote and study for about an hour.
5. Repeat the same thing all over on the next day.


Part B:

1. Keep your attention focused on what your teacher is saying. Listen for “signal statements” that tell you that what your teacher is about to say is important to write in your notes. Examples of signal statements are “The most important point…” and “Remember that . . . “ Be sure to include in your notes information that your teacher repeats or writes on the chalkboard.

2. Write quickly so that you can include all the important information in your notes. Do this by writing abbreviated words such as med for medicine, using symbols such as % for percent, and writing short sentences.

3. Place a ? next to information you write in your notes, but about whose meaning you are not sure.

4. Rewrite your notes to make them more complete by changing abbreviated words into whole words, symbols into words, and shortened sentences into longer sentences.

5. Make your notes more accurate by answering any questions you had when writing your notes in class. Use your textbook and reference sources to obtain the information you need to answer your questions. If necessary, ask your teacher or other students for help.


Task 3:

Study skills can help me in my service learning placement by my thinking process. It puts me in the state of mind of learning people ways and how they interact with others. I learned how to fax papers to other who need anything faxed to them and to communicate with others as well.Basically my whole experience so far has been positive. I haven't had any bad experience so far. In the coming weeks, I'm looking forward to working with others.
